Emergency services are dealing with a chemical spill at Cardiff University.

The university says its main building has been evacuated and “temporarily closed”.

A statement from the university said a “small number of people” are being checked by paramedics.

It added no serious injuries or casualties had been reported at this stage and that the incident was “contained”.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to Park Place, Cardiff, at approximately 11.13am.

“Multiple crews are currently in attendance, alongside emergency service colleagues,” it said in a statement.

The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed it also sent three vehicles to the scene after being called at 11.20am.

“We have deployed a rapid response vehicle, two emergency ambulances and are being supported by the Hazardous Area Rescue Team,” a spokesperson said.

South Wales Police said in a statement that the road is closed between Museum Place and Cathays Terrace as the emergency response continues.

The force has advised motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
