In 2021, following the advocacy efforts from Muslim-led charities, the Office of the Taxpayer’s Ombudsperson (OTO) was tasked with investigating concerns expressed by these leaders and other racialized charity leaders about bias and discrimination they faced from the CRA.

In a recently released statement, the OTO is raising concerns about their ability to access information necessary for conducting a thorough investigation.

A group of Muslim-led charities have responded by releasing an open letter recommending the government take three actions to ensure that there is a fulsome examination of systemic Islamophobia and racism.
